Inshore Fishing on the Halifax River
Captain CB offers inshore fishing charters along the the brackish waters of the Halifax River. The Halifax River goes right through Daytona Beach and flows south through large unspoiled estuaries and eventually meets the Atlantic at Ponce Inlet. The Intracoastal Waterway and the estuaries continue south of Ponce Inlet to New Smyrna Beach.
These estuaries include mazes of mangrove marshes, canals, channels and palm and oak shaded creeks. The Halifax River region provides countless habitats for fish from mangrove lined shorelines and oyster bars to docks and bridges.
The Fish We Catch
The brackish waters of the Halifax River are home to over 200 species of fish. Captain CB targets Redfish, Spotted Sea Trout, Flounder and Black Drum year round. Many other species are at home in these inshore waters including: Sheepshead, Spanish Mackerel, Snook, Mangrove Snapper, Scamp Grouper and several species of Sharks.
Migratory species such as Tarpon, Jack Crevalle and Pompano also appear each year especially in the lower Halifax region where we fish.
The closer your fishing charter gets to Ponce Inlet, the more the variety increases.
More About the Halifax River
This is prime Central Florida inshore fishing! Fish anywhere between Port Orange on the Halifax River north of Ponce Inlet and New Smyrna Beach on the Intercoastal Waterway south of Ponce Inlet and you are in the midst of the best inshore fishing grounds in the Daytona Beach area.
The gentle flow of the Halifax River and its countless creeks feeds nutrients to the estuaries near the river’s mouth. Clean, clear, saltier water from the blue Atlantic surges through the inlet at high tides. This marriage of nutrient rich fresh water from the creeks and clear salt water from the sea makes the wetlands here home to a mosaic of saltwater fish species that can be found far up the river and along the intracoastal Waterway. The waters are home to hundreds of species of fish. The abundance of dolphins here in the Halifax River and the Intracoastal Waterway attest to the waters richness as fishing grounds for people and dolphins.
